Breakfast at Rider's Cafe

I had wanted a picnic at the Marina Barrage today. But Darlie was in no mood for such a time consuming activity and he insisted we do something else. That something else was to have breakfast at Rider's Cafe..

Since young, I had never sat at my dining table and had home-made breakfast with my family like those I seen on TV. Breakfast was always on the go for me, like I would grab something and eat along my way. So the thought of sitting down and being served breakfast swept me off my feet. I will never say no when anyone ask me out for breakfast, even if it means to forsake my 8 hours of sleep.

Amidst of the lush greenery of Bukit Timah Saddle Club, the cafe has a good view that makes one sit back and relax while savouring your hearty breakfast. I had the Egg Florentine with spinach and muchrooms with breakfast potatoes, which cost about $11 (if I remember it correctly) and a cup of macchiatto (which I keep forgetting is espresso with milk!).

Thanks Darlie, for the breakfast treat! ;)

Yi Xing Part II

A week more to a month of unbearable long working hours. Yet, I love the depth of knowledge I'm getting out of it.

Thanks for the opportunity! :)

This year's Valentines.

We didnt celebrate Valentine's Day like we usually do this year round. Instead, we spent the special day with the other couples at Darlie's cousin's house.

We had lou hei, Katong laksa, diy poh piahs and vietnam rolls. The queue for diy poh piah was super long. I waited a long time and finally gotten my hands on it. While I was making it, King was beside me critising my perfect skills. So I challenged him to the D-I-Y Poh Piah Making Competition...

VS

The black black one was made by me and the white one was the master piece of Darlie's. As dipicted below, both of us failed our mission. But I still think mine is better than his..

Darlie & I had intended to buy Wii since Christmas last year. We are still accumulating more reasons to buy it. Christmas, new year, anniversary, and now Valentine's day. We havent bought any presents for each other since Christmas, to save up for Wii. But I still find it a big investment.

Both Darlie and I have poor coordinating skills and so we keep failing the band. But we got the hang of it after a few tries. Dont really like this game cos I thought it put lots of strain on the eyes. I personally like the fitness one.
Wii, I'm definitely getting you!

8 hours of sleep - to be fulfilled tonight!

I finally see broad daylight on my way home from work today. Even if it's just for a day, I appreciated it so much. After so long, I had admitted that it's my fate to become a workholic. To work 7 days a week, and thereafter struggle to climb out of bed every morning. Maybe I get to rest a little during the weekends. But still , I digged out some personal time for work, not to mention my personal time on weekdays too. The fact is, when I see the office crowd strolling on the streets of Orchard Road at 6pm on a weekday, I felt envious! When can I ever have such a chance?

There's no one to blame other than myself - for being so inefficient at work all the time. My jobs arent tough. At least the previous one was simple but I spent more time than necessary. I swear that my unexplanable long hours were not spent idling. Thankfully, I wasnt doing the job I did last year cos' the manager swopped me over with Vincent. He probably had a harder life than me cos' there were times when I left office and he was still around with the manager rushing to meet deadlines. We totally switched identities as compared to the previous peak!

Work may be stressful, but thankfully friendships tat I forged at work are definitely something to swipe all the awefully thoughts away. Ah Neo bought me Happy Hippos! And silly darlie is here to swing my moods up and down like a volatile stock! Let's hope he's swinging up or down at the right time. Or I might just get delisted from the stock market! HA!

2009, the Year of OX.

2009 came in a hurry and soon enough, my 2 days of CNY holiday were over!

I spend my last day of 2008 and first day of 2009 in China, working hard. But the highlight of it all was that I managed to see abit of snow, falling from the sky!! I had encountered snow in Japan many years ago, but I have never seen it falling. -Really cold-

The last day of the lunar year was the day for reunion. This year, we had our reunion dinner at Gu Gu's restaurant, relatives included.

As I recalled, the eve of CNY is usually interesting. Mum and Dad will place lots of food on a table at the corridor for praying purposes. We would have to wait til a special time before keeping it and burning the joss papers. On other occassions, I would visit Chinatown at the last hour and see people doing last minute shopping and to soak in the festive spirit.

This year's CNY eve was a bore. I decided to stay at home to make pineapple tarts, which turned out to be a failure. The pineapple jam was a tad too sour due to my kiasu-ism. With the thought that lemon can actutally enhance the fragrance of the tarts, I added in more than neccesary. And since pineapples are sweet to begin with, the "gei kiang" me lessened the amount of sugar. So less sugar, more lemon = sour. Sighs.. I made till 4am in the morning and ended up feeling lethagic on the first day of the Ox year.

Seeing my cousins reminds me of the good old days when we would gather and play at the playground. Or make prank calls. Or had sleepovers and sneak out to the kitchen to smuggle titbits. Play "big-small". Those days were so carefree! I could tell that these childhood lifestyle has vanished into thin air when I look at the younger generation. What they do now is sit around, watch TV, play computer games or join the adults in playing blackjack.

I miss my childhood days.
