2009 came in a hurry and soon enough, my 2 days of CNY holiday were over!
I spend my last day of 2008 and first day of 2009 in China, working hard. But the highlight of it all was that I managed to see abit of snow, falling from the sky!! I had encountered snow in Japan many years ago, but I have never seen it falling. -Really cold-
The last day of the lunar year was the day for reunion. This year, we had our reunion dinner at Gu Gu's restaurant, relatives included.
As I recalled, the eve of CNY is usually interesting. Mum and Dad will place lots of food on a table at the corridor for praying purposes. We would have to wait til a special time before keeping it and burning the joss papers. On other occassions, I would visit Chinatown at the last hour and see people doing last minute shopping and to soak in the festive spirit.
This year's CNY eve was a bore. I decided to stay at home to make pineapple tarts, which turned out to be a failure. The pineapple jam was a tad too sour due to my kiasu-ism. With the thought that lemon can actutally enhance the fragrance of the tarts, I added in more than neccesary. And since pineapples are sweet to begin with, the "gei kiang" me lessened the amount of sugar. So less sugar, more lemon = sour. Sighs.. I made till 4am in the morning and ended up feeling lethagic on the first day of the Ox year.
Seeing my cousins reminds me of the good old days when we would gather and play at the playground. Or make prank calls. Or had sleepovers and sneak out to the kitchen to smuggle titbits. Play "big-small". Those days were so carefree! I could tell that these childhood lifestyle has vanished into thin air when I look at the younger generation. What they do now is sit around, watch TV, play computer games or join the adults in playing blackjack.
I miss my childhood days.
